love actually analysis

Starts with happy feel good music. it uses high lighting to show a feel good movie. Voice over talks about love which suggests a romantic comedy. Introduces director and tell what he’s done via a voice over. the voice over lasts for the whole of the trailer talking us through the characters and the plot. in the middle of the trailer the major characters are shown Hugh Grant, Colin Firth, Keira Knightley. Romantic music in the middle when the characters are introduced and they are show in pairs. Happy, fun, fasted paced music then plays towards the end of the trailer. They use a lot of stereotypes, with makes the film easy to relate to as there are a lot of characters.

  1. Can you give any examples of the stereotypes the director uses, and what the effect is on the audience? Do we sympathise with these characters etc?

How is mise-en-scene used to convey genre (high key lighting, colours, props, costumes etc)?

Can you tell us anything else about the actors - what kinds of films have they appeared in? Does that reinforce the genre?
